Picking Boo up from school, it was lovely, he was all skippy and chatting and happy and I felt like a proper mum type.
Then horror struck;
"It's World Book Day tomorrow" he chirped excitedly.
Shit
Crap
Bollocks
Do you know the worst thing my little Chumlins? This is how I felt when I found out last week, and the week before, and I told myself that I mustn't forget. That I would be the marvellous, organised mum type and smash this World Book Day right in the goolies with a big Ha!

Now, I love books, books are fantastic, you can escape to anywhere with a good book. But World Book Day, well, that is just, quite honestly, not being dramatic or anything, is just plain and utter EVIL.
Here are some very real facts of World Book Day;
Whether you know or have heard about it before or not, you may think that World Book Day is about books, and reading and all the lovely things in between, you would be very extremely mistaken.
World Book Day strikes fear in many a parents heart and soul.
Side note for those who don't actually know, World Book Day is apparently about finding out your child's favourite book, and them dressing up to school as their favourite character from that book. Sounds lovely and simple right? Wrong! So very, very, very wrong.

Finding out your child's favourite book is in no way simple.
Explaining that YouTube, magazines and books about TV shows aren't really books either.
If you are not either rich or the amazingly crafty type forget about ever pleasing your child with the exact weird and wonderful character they eventually decide they want to be.
When you speak to your child in the weeks before they will show little to no interest in dressing up as anything.
This is both good and a little bad, if you are the creative competitive type. You now don't have a reason to use all that tape and fabric and paper and pipe cleaners and paperclips you've been saving. Sucks to be you right?
You may think that all will be fine once you pop to a supermarket and just buy one of the costumes., Wrong! Your child does not want to be any of the characters that are there, ready, made, in front of you, singing to your rescue
Your child will suddenly become very enthusiastic about World Book Day and knows about characters from books you are pretty sure they have never heard of never mind read.
This will be the day before, if not the morning of.
Groot is an actual suggest from some children, namely, mine.

It reminds you that actually, at the end of the day, something we all think but never talk about, children are quite often, evil.
So anyway, all this and more is running through my head all the way home.
Panic
Fear
I burst in to the living room and announce to Nat that I have some utterly, awful, shocking news
"It's World Book Day tomorrow" I announced with fear on my face
and do you know what she said?
Do you know what she actually said?!
"I know, Boo and I have discussed it, his favourite book is David Walliams so he is going as a boy"
Speechless.
Well, erm, that's that then!
